Yes, I think this is the nuance that needed to be added to this conversation. I certainly have felt loved by individual men but on a societal level, there's a huge amount of ambivalence toward women and I've felt that in a more personal sense as well - directed at me specifically.
And on the societal level at least, some of that seems to come directly out of patriarchal gender expectations and the feelings that arise when those are not met for some reason. There's also the zero-sum dynamic (also a patriarchal construct) where if women "win" by getting more equality then it means that men are somehow "losing." Somewhat shocking to me, younger men are the new and most vehement crop of anti-feminists for this exact reason. I'm working on a story about that and will link it here after it's published.
