Yes, the more I learn about all this, the more I can see where expectations based on societal norms have really clouded supposedly scientific understanding of things. It's really only somewhat recently that we're recognizing how these preconceptions have erroneously been applied to non-human animals as well. It's kind of mind-boggling to me the level of biased assumptions rather than actual investigation.
