You are correct that lots of women support the anti-abortion rights movement but the fact remains, both on the Federal and state level, legislatures are male dominated — by a lot. Most Americans support abortion rights in at least some situations, but just as with sensible gun laws, which most Americans support, the legislature does what it wants and goes against the will of the people. And the reason for that is entirely transparent — not to save babies — because they don’t care a fig about them once they are born, it’s very demonstrably to put women back in their place, to do “what they are meant to do” and to punish them for having sex that isn’t for procreation. And the women who support that are very often simply expressing what is essentially internalized patriarchal norms. They tell themselves it’s about saving life, they tell themselves that they would never have an abortion (but then they do — at nearly the same levels as anyone else) they do it because it’s a central part of right-wing virtue-signaling.
