Your Holiday Mom
A virtual home for the holidays for LGBTQ+ youth
Many LGTBQ+ youth don’t get the warm acceptance of their family, and this can be particularly hard during the holiday season. That’s why Your Holiday Mom was created as an online space where supportive moms (and dads) gather to post a holiday message to all LGBTQ+ children, teens, and adults who are without family support and who would like a “stand-in” holiday family.
Throughout the holiday season, from Thanksgiving until New Year’s, there will be a new letter each day, written and posted on the Your Holiday Mom website, as well as Facebook, Twitter, and other social media outlets. Here’s a link to letters from years past, going all the way back to 2011. There’s also a space on the website for questions and personal encouragement and replies.
YourHolidayMom.com was created by Robin Rice (a.k.a. Shamama). Robin is the mother of an adult transgender son, and she creates a new social change project each year — very much intending to change the world! To learn about other projects, visit RobinRice.com.
It’s a really wonderful, meaningful endeavor straight from the heart. Please share about Your Holiday Mom anyplace that it might reach young people and adults in need of a little extra love this season. Here’s a short video clip from Shamama about wanting to be your holiday mom, if that’s something that you’d welcome.
