You've said that you aren't an expert in this field, and yet, someone who does actually know what they are talking about is "pontificating." That's pretty offensive right there.
How are we actually going to change the culture if a huge number of people don't know what the facts are and don't care because they'd rather be right and get to speak/post their opinion rather than educate themselves and become informed. My mission is to help educate a critical mass of people as to the current social dynamics, the ones from the past that served humans well, and the ways that we can perhaps bridge the two. Right now a critical mass of people think that women are the actual problem (as well as non-whites, homosexuals, etc.) How exactly are those beliefs going to shift if they aren't challenged at the root and by understanding where they come from?
If you think that people of all sorts aren't concerned about being raped and sexually harassed by people in their everyday sphere, about being given equal opportunities at work, about rampant bullying, suicide, and violence of all kinds then you are the one in a tower of cluelessness. Female surgeons would like to be able to do their jobs (and pay their bills) without being groped and harassed DURING medical procedures they are assisting in or performing; women who work in National Security would like to be able to protect our country without being subject to the same; little girls would like to be able to reach adulthood without 6-8 years of fear and objectification already under their belts. Thirty eight men are raped every day in the military. You can bet they think those are REAL problems. Black and brown folks would like to have their loans considered and their resumes treated the same way as white folks, and to not have to fear the police out of hand. That's all a part of the same problematic social system.
The Penguin is a grumpy older white man who is attached to the privilege that provides to him and who pulls notions out of his ass based on nothing but how they feel to him and then claims they ought to carry the same weight as facts or data or science. If you think that's a better thing to do than talk about what's really going on so that we can try to work together to improve it, then that's your choice.
