More recently, when researchers asked a socially and ethnically diverse range of men ages 18–30 in the US, the UK, and Mexico what it takes to be a “real man” the responses were very similar. Here are the 7 main pillars:

Be self-sufficient — Real men should be self-reliant, particularly with regard to their physical and emotional health.

Act tough — Real men should be willing to defend their reputation, by violence if necessary. They also should remain stoic when dealing with vulnerable emotions.

Physical attractiveness — Real men should dress well and look good, but without appearing that they are trying too hard to do so.

Rigid gender roles — Real men expect to be financial providers but not to do much in the way of child or home care.

Heterosexuality and homophobia — Real men should be both heterosexual and derogatory of homosexuality, even if they have gay friends that they accept.

Hypersexuality — Real men are interested in and ready for sex anytime and anywhere. They should always be on the prowl for their next “sexual conquest.”

Aggression and control — Real men use physical violence when necessary, and hold control over household decisions and women’s movements.

These are all things that feminism would like to see dismantled because that sort of Man Box hurts women as well as men, and if you think that somehow women are secretly running the world and the "male proletariat" works for them, you're even more delusional than I thought. The male proletariat works for the overwhelmingly white, rich, Christian, male elites and serves their needs - and in order to keep you morons from standing up to them, they first gave you power over women, and now that it's eroding, are telling you to blame women - instead of them.

Again, grow up - you sound like a child.

After all, it’s not women who started the vast majority of wars and have sent poorer and less connected men off to fight on the front lines for the economic interests of a few elites. It’s not women who discourage men from going to the doctor regularly or who goad them to engage in risky behaviors as a way to prove their masculinity. It’s patriarchy.

Society doesn’t value women more than men, patriarchy values strict gender roles as well as a stratified hierarchy where regular guys count less than rich and powerful ones. In fact, that’s what patriarchy actually is — a dominance-based social hierarchy that is pyramid-shaped. It includes a historical gender power differential between men and women but that’s not the only component. Patriarchy is designed to primarily serve the needs of a relatively few elite men (and their families) in a Might Makes Right dynamic.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
